Students will learn how to deliver interpretive speeches and bring “literature to life” in this intensive workshop, which will include:
- Components of nonverbal communication (i.e. vocalics, kinesics, oculesics, etc.)
- An overview of interpretive speaking & the general process for “cutting”
- Instructions for character development
- Text analysis questions for character sketches
- General script formatting and preparation
- Techniques for introducing an interpretive speech
- How to analyze a performance on film
- “Blind” & “deaf judge” critique sheets
- Games, exercises to use throughout the year.
- Practicum: Poetry and short script interpretations for delivery and critique literature
